UFI HYDROGEN Awarded as “Rising Star” at the Italian Hydrogen Technology Awards 2025

The award was granted for the record launch of the new plant in Trentino and the production of MEA catalyzed membranes, a key technology for green hydrogen.

UFI HYDROGEN received the prestigious “Rising Star” award at the 2025 Italian Hydrogen Technology Awards (IHTA), held during the fourth edition of HYDROGEN EXPO in Piacenza. The award, dedicated to the most promising players in the hydrogen technology supply chain, recognizes the remarkable journey of UFI HYDROGEN, the only Italian company specialized in the implementation and industrialization of catalyzed MEA – Membrane Electrode Assembly – membranes applied to water electrolysis for the production of green hydrogen and more. MEAs are also used in clean electricity generation via fuel cells, in the conversion of CO₂ into e-fuels, and in electrochemical compression for hydrogen storage and transport.

The motivation behind the award highlights the company’s extraordinary ability to start full operations at the new Serravalle site in the province of Trento in just seven months, as well as the launch of industrial production of MEA membranes for water electrolysis from renewable sources.

In record time, we transformed 7 years of research and development into a concrete, scalable, and fully operational industrial production, contributing tangibly to the affirmation of green hydrogen as a pillar of the energy transition,” said Giorgio Girondi, Chairman of UFI HYDROGEN.

With an initial investment of €50 million, the new UFI HYDROGEN plant in Serravalle, Trentino, covers 14,000 m², already employs a team of 30 professionals from 11 countries, and aims to triple the workforce within four years. The company is also the only Italian participant selected for the European IPCEI Hy2Move project, where it will develop MEA membranes for fuel cells for transport and industry.

The Rising Star award at IHTA 2025 is not only an achievement, but a further boost toward our goal of becoming Italy’s leading hub for green hydrogen technologies,” said Marco Lazzaroni, CEO of UFI HYDROGEN.
