UFI HYDROGEN is the only Italian company selected for the project, alongside 10 other partners from 7 EU Member States.
UFI HYDROGEN has received approval for funding of approximately €22 million under the European IPCEI – Important Project of Common European Interest – “Hy2Move,” promoted by the European Commission to accelerate innovation and industrialization of hydrogen technologies applied to mobility.
UFI HYDROGEN is the only Italian company selected, together with 10 other partners from 7 EU Member States involved in 13 projects. The company, which began operations in the first quarter of this year at a new 14,000-square-meter facility in Trentino, is participating in the project through the R2RMEA (Roll-to-Roll Membrane Electrode Assembly) program, focused on developing MEA membranes for fuel cells used in zero-emission electricity generation.
Within “Workstream 2,” UFI HYDROGEN will collaborate with key partners such as Michelin and HDF-Energy to define shared testing protocols aimed at assessing the performance and functionality of fuel cells equipped with MEA membranes, both in mobility and stationary applications.
“The goal is to make this technology ready for large-scale commercialization, for fuel cells applied in Mobility (Transport, Trains, Aviation, Marine, Drones) and Stationary (Power Backup such as Data Centers, Off-Grid Solutions),” commented Marco Lazzaroni, CEO of UFI HYDROGEN. “We are proud to contribute, with our know-how and industrial capabilities, to the creation of a European hydrogen value chain that supports the EU goal of producing only zero-emission vehicles starting in 2035.”
The IPCEI Hy2Move project will also have a significant employment impact, with more than 3,600 new direct jobs expected across Europe, including 96 in Italy, and major investments in research and academic training, such as funding for PhDs and master’s thesis.
